Theatre in the sunshine!
Over a hundred people relaxed on a warm autumn afternoon and enjoyed seeing ‘Rising Agents’ in the Heritage Memorial Garden. It was a play, with music, telling the story of the achievements of the Women’s Institute whose centenary is this year. The take on this by the Mikron Theatre Company was hugely enjoyable and had us all laughing uproariously at times.
This was the second time that they have brought a production to the Garden and we plan to book them again next year. There is no charge for this event; a collection being taken at the end of the performance.
We had planned three events in the Garden this year, the Brass Band Concert with Hade Edge Band, a Punch & Judy Show, and the play. Unfortunately, the rain came on the afternoon of the Brass Band concert. However the Band moved into the ‘Morning Room’ in the museum and the audience were sat in the ‘Study’ and the entrance hall.
Having to be inside did not affect our enjoyment and we were, as ever, entertained with a varied selection of pieces beautifully played. The sun shone for the Punch and Judy Show which was enjoyed by an audience of children and adults. At these events the ‘Friends of Tolson & Ravensknowle’ serve refreshments.
Classic Motorbike Show
On the forecourt of Tolson Museum, we held an extremely successful Classic Motorbike Show. A wide range of bikes kept arriving all morning. One was manufactured in Cleckheaton before the second world war! At one time, there were over seventy bikes parked.
There were several stalls, including one by the ‘Friends’, where we had a tombola and plants for sale. This was part of the ‘Heritage Open Days in Huddersfield 2015’ weekend. It was our second Classic Motorbike Show and will be an annual event, the next being 11th September 2016.
